Education leaders from around the world gathered in Houston for the 2018 Texas Alliance of Black School Educators’ (TABSE) 33rd Annual Conference at the Hyatt Regency. Nikki Giovanni said, “We have a world to conquer…one person at a time…starting with ourselves.” Yet, how many educators are not aware of how we can be fully present to support the African American learner? In this session, we will address the stages of competence that allow educational leaders to move through the continuum of equity consciousness.  Now is the time for educators wake up from the dream that education promises to students. And begin to create a way of being that will make that dream a reality for our children.
